Tesla Model S UI Concept
This consulting work was years ago, but I still have a fond place in my heart for this project and the brand. Tesla was among the first car manufacturers to recognize the driving experience could be substantially improved by providing a better user interface. Limited by testing cycles for safety regulations and technology (depth sensors/3D cameras), there were dozens of killer ideas that were left on the cutting floor. Testing has since been completed to satisfying safety regulations, and technology has come a long way.
With that era behind us I’m looking forward to an ever expanding era inspired by the relentless mobile revolution and ushered by Elon Musk’s visionary tendencies. In 2016 we’re seeing concept cars from each of the major OEM & ODMs distinctly focused on UI design. The Mercedes F—015, BMW iVision Future Interaction, Audi TT concept, Aston Martin Rapide S, Maserati, and many others include polished and beautiful infotainment UI’s that rivalling the best of what’s happening in interactive design.
